Legal Policy Maintenance

When app changes affect what data is collected, how it's used, or what third-party services are involved, update the legal documents in docs/legal/.

When This Skill Triggers

Update legal documents when changes involve:

  • Data collection: New user data fields, new automatic data collection, new sensors/permissions
  • Third-party services: Adding, removing, or changing external service providers
  • AI/ML features: New AI models, changed data processing, new input types
  • Monetization: Subscription tier changes, new payment providers, ad changes
  • Authentication: New sign-in methods, changed auth providers
  • User-facing features: New features that affect what users can do or what data flows through the app
  • Platform changes: New platforms, new store requirements

Update Process

  1. Read the current policy files before making changes
  2. Identify which sections are affected by the app change
  3. Update the affected sections — keep language clear and non-legalistic
  4. Update the "Last Updated" date in the policy header
  5. Cross-reference docs/legal/tracking.md to ensure the tracking checklist stays in sync

Store Compliance Reminders

When legal docs change, flag if the following store listings may need updates:

  • Apple App Store: Privacy Nutrition Labels (data types declared)
  • Google Play Store: Data Safety Section (data collection declarations)

These are tracked in docs/legal/tracking.md under "Store Listings".

Apple App Store

  • Privacy policy URL required
  • Accurate Privacy Nutrition Labels
  • EULA: Apple's standard EULA applies unless custom one is needed
  • Must disclose all data collection including SDKs

Google Play Store

  • Privacy policy URL required
  • Data Safety Section must be accurate and complete
  • Must link to account deletion mechanism
  • Must disclose ad SDK data collection
  • GDPR: Consent mechanism for EEA/UK users, data processing disclosure, user rights
  • CCPA: Disclosure of data collection, deletion rights, no-sale statement
  • COPPA: 13+ age requirement, no knowing collection from children under 13

Principles

  • Keep language clear and readable — avoid dense legalese
  • Be specific about what data is collected and why
  • When in doubt, disclose more rather than less
  • Privacy policy and ToS should be accurate reflections of actual app behavior
  • Don't include provisions for features that don't exist yet — update when features ship
